Online Certification Now Available! 2010 MA and PDP Training & Certification Program Now available online: Universal American's 2010 training and certification program for Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicare Part D Prescription Drug (PDP) plans. Online training is ideal for agents who have not attended a 2010 onsite training/certification session, or who have not yet successfully completed their exam. The online training program is available at no cost, 24/7. For even greater convenience, the site offers easy access to the study materials and the 50-question certification exam; just let your fingers do the walking! Upon successful completion of the certification exam, you will receive an e-mail notification. Certification for the 2010 enrollment season will be achieved with a passing grade of 85%, as mandated by CMS. Agents will be notified immediately within the testing process if they fail to achieve a passing grade.** Third Party Certifications Universal American will also accept certifications completed through one of the following online services. Important Upcoming Dates for the 2010 MA/PDP Selling Season Before we know it, the 2010 Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan selling season will begin. So, here's the question: Are you ready? Here are key dates and information that you'll need to know as you prepare for 2010 enrollment: Agent Certification and Training In order to take full advantage of the 2010 Selling Season in its entirety, you'll need to complete and pass agent certification training prior to November 15. In fact, you'll want to complete it before October 1, 2009 so you can engage in pre-selling activities. You can do this in two ways: Whichever method you choose, you must successfully pass a 50-question multiple choice exam with a grade of 85% or higher to be certified for 2010. October 1 - November 14, 2009 -- Pre-Selling Period Certified agents may begin scheduling appointments and meeting with beneficiaries to discuss Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug plans beginning October 1st. At this time you may discuss the characteristics of different Today's Options plans to assist the potential enrollee in evaluating the merits of all available Today's Options plans, based on their needs. You may not collect or submit January 1st, 2010 enrollments until November 15, 2009. November 15-December 31, 2009 -- The Annual Election Period (AEP) This is the time when all eligible Medicare beneficiaries may enroll in Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans for 2010. They may also make changes to their current coverage. Our Medicare Advantage plans include Today's Options Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) plans, available in 45 states; our Today's Options PPO Advantage 1, 2, & 3 Plans available in 43 markets; and our Medicare Advantage HMO plans available in select areas of Texas, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. January 1-March 31, 2010 -- Open Enrollment Period (OEP) This is an opportunity for beneficiaries to enroll in, disenroll from, or change a Medicare Advantage plan (only once) during this period. There are several restrictions as to what individuals may or may not add or drop from their coverage during this time. These restrictions/requirements will be the subject of a future communication.
