2009 and 2010 New Member Verification Call Process

Including Use of New Member Acknowledgement Form

Following the completion of an enrollment in a 2009 or 2010 Medicare Advantage Plan, Universal American will conduct the New Member Verification and Education Call in accordance with CMS requirements.  As part of this process, agents may ask the client to review and sign a New Member Acknowledgement Form to ensure that the consumer understands the plan in which he or she has enrolled.*  The form may also be used to prepare clients for the New Member Verification and Education Calls.

Outline of Permissible Sales Activities for "Pre-Selling Season," October 1 - November 14

There are a number of sales-related activities in which you may engage in preparation for the start of the Annual Election Period (AEP) which begins on November 15.  The attached memo gives precise information as to what you may and may not do during this pre-selling period. Please read it carefully and contact the Career Sales Department if you have any additional questions.  Click for the memo.

Check Your Email!

With the 2010 Medicare Advantage selling season at our fingertips, it is very important that you be sure to check your Company-assigned email on a daily basis. You'll need to be "in the know" regarding important compliance updates that will impact your sales strategies and processes. Universal American Announces "Nifty" Strategic Alliance

Universal American Corp. is pleased to announce a strategic alliance with Nifty after Fifty® ("NaF"), a company that operates health and wellness centers focused primarily on the senior community.  Together, Universal American and NaF will open several fitness and wellness centers in the Houston and Dallas markets over the next several months with expansion to additional states and locations planned in the near future. Read the entire announcement here.

Ordering Forms for Strategic Alliance Companies

Don't forget that as a Universal American Career agent, you have a great opportunity to become contracted with our strategic alliance partners such as John Hancock, American Investors, Lincoln Financial and Equitable so that you may sell their annuity, long-term care and life insurance products. We want to remind you that when ordering the underwriting requirements for these third party companies, it is imperative that you use the corresponding company's order forms to obtain these required forms. Please do not use Universal American subsidiary forms when ordering the underwriting requirements for other companies.

MOOP for Our 2010 MA Plans...

A Great Selling Point for Prospects!

Did you know? In our 2010 plans, all Medicare-covered medical services, including Medicare Part B drugs, count towards members' MOOP. The MOOP, or the annual maximum out-of-pocket cost, is the maximum amount that Medicare Advantage members are required to pay toward the cost of their care. Once the maximum out-of-pocket amount is reached, the plan pays in full for covered services.

Our Maximum Out-of-Pocket (MOOP) Limits:

A Great Selling Feature

Educate prospects about the advantages of the comprehensive annual maximum out-of-pocket limits they can expect when they join one of our 2010 Medicare Advantage plans. Members should know what their maximum medical costs will be for the calendar year for all covered services. Knowing could possibly help them avoid unexpected medical bills, as members can expect to have an estimated amount covered and can prepare accordingly.

Plus, our plans have one of the lowest MOOPs in the marketplace. Take a look at maximum out-of-pocket limits on 2010 MA plans from the Universal American family of companies*:

  • Today's Options PFFS Value and Value "powered by CCRx" plans = $3,400
  • Today's Options PFFS Premier and Premier "powered by CCRx" plans = $3,250 (Benefit Package 1); $3400 (Benefit Package 2)
  • Today's Options PPO Advantage 1 plan =   $3,250
  • Today's Options PPO Advantage 2 plan = $3,400
  • Today's Options PPO Advantage 3 plan = $3,250
  • TexanPlus HMO Value and Classic "powered by CCRx" plans = $3,000
  • Generations Healthcare HMO Value and Classic "powered by CCRx" plans = $3,000
  • Today's Health HMO Value and Classic "powered by CCRx" = $3,250

NOTE:  Medicare Part D drug copays and coinsurance payments do not count toward the maximum out-of-pocket limit.

Our MOOP Stands Out from the Pack

The 2010 MA plans listed above count Part B drugs, Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and Medicare Covered Chemotherapy towards the MOOP.  Not many other competitor plans include these.

Services covered in MOOP for all our 2010 Medicare Advantage are listed here. Study them, post them on your wall or carry it with you for your personal reference wherever you go!

Let prospects know about the stand out maximum out-of-pocket limit of our 2010 MA plans. It could make all the difference in their healthcare coverage. It could make all the difference in your sales!

2010 Medicare Advantage Summary of Benefits

The 2010 Medicare Advantage Premium Maps have been provided as a state by state guide to understand where Universal American's subsidiary products are being offered. Three Benefit Packages are available:  Benefit Package 1, Benefit Package 2, and Benefit Package 3.  Benefit packages are designated by state and county. To determine which benefit package to order, agents must know the county in which they will be marketing PFFS plans and refer to the Summary of Benefits. Click here to view a spreadsheet listing benefit packages by state and county.

You'll notice our 2010 Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan materials have a new look. Kits are color-coded by product and are easily distinguishable this year. They contain all the forms and plan information prospects need to enroll in one of our plans.

Each kit includes the following items:

Educational Brochure

Summary of Benefits

Enrollment Form

And more!

The Scope of Appointment form is included with each order as a standalone piece.

Today's Options PFFS plans:

Three (3) Benefit Packages Available in 2010

There are three separate kits for the Today's Options PFFS plan benefit packages available for 2010: Benefit Package 1, Benefit Package 2, and Benefit Package 3.

Today's Options PFFS benefit packages can be distinguished by their form numbers, located on the bottom, right hand side of the outside envelope of these kits (i.e. Benefit Package 2 form number would be PFS SUMOFBENB2 0909). The Summary of Benefits within the kit also indicates a similar form number with a B1, B2 or B3 at the end of that file name.

Please be sure to carefully select the appropriate benefit package you would like to order from the supply ordering system.

Online Certification Now Available!

2010 MA and PDP Training & Certification Program

Now available online:  Universal American's 2010 training and certification program for Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicare Part D Prescription Drug (PDP) plans. Online training is ideal for agents who have not attended a 2010 onsite training/certification session, or who have not yet successfully completed their exam.  The online training program is available at no cost, 24/7.  For even greater convenience, the site offers easy access to the study materials and the 50-question certification exam; just let your fingers do the walking!

You must get recertified with us for 2010 in order for us to Pay Your Renewal Commission and for you to be able to sell our very competitive 2010 Medicare Advantage and Part D products.  We have expanded our product line and revised our rates for 2010.

Please Note:  If you do not get recertified Your Commissions Will Stop.  That is the CMS rule.

Please also be sure that you have an active state license with the states in which you sell Universal American's subsidiary products, including Medicare Advantage. If you do not hold an active state license, you cannot be certified to sell our MA or PDP products.

To initiate your training, please visit our AppointMyAgent online training site at certify.appointmyagent.com.*   Or you may log-in through AgentLink and go to the Training and Certification section, which is located in the InfoCenter.

Upon successful completion of the certification exam, you will receive an e-mail notification.  Certification for the 2010 enrollment season will be achieved with a passing grade of 85%, as mandated by CMS.  Agents will be notified immediately within the testing process if they fail to achieve a passing grade.**

Third Party Certifications

Universal American will also accept certifications completed through one of the following online services.  Proof of certification is required:

Hurry!  Pre-Selling Season Begins October 1!

With the pre-selling season beginning in just a few weeks, there is no better time than now to complete your training and certification.  Once you have your certification successfully under your belt, you may begin educating consumers about our MA and PDP products on October 1.  Don't delay.  Visit certify.appointmyagent.com today to complete your certification.  Or, contact your Sales office for assistance.

*Please note: if using the online contracting system, AppointMyAgent, to contract new agents for the 2010 selling season, the prospective agents may complete their training and certification during the contracting process.  Once these agents are activated, they may begin working with consumers as of October 1.

**Agents must pass the exam in no more than three (3) attempts in order to sell MA and PDP plans during the 2010 enrollment year.

Use This Checklist Before Submitting Traditional Applications

Incomplete application paperwork often results in underwriting delays. To ensure timely processing and faster commission payments, we strongly encourage you to make it a habit to complete this very handy checklist (click to download)  before submitting your traditional insurance business. By doing so, you will help ensure smoother sailing through the underwriting process and fewer costly delays.  The checklist is attached for your needs and is also available on the agent website for convenient download at any time.  In addition, the reasons why an application may be pended is listed in this article for your convenience.

Finally, remember that applications completed correctly upon submission contribute towards our company goal of 80% of applications jet issued each week.  This means that the client's policy may be underwritten the next day, and as a direct result commissions can be processed timely.  We look forward to providing you with the outstanding service you have come to expect at Universal American and we thank you for your business.
